Awards of the Polish Society of Cinematographers PSC 2025
02.04.2025On Saturday, March 29, a remarkable gala took place, announcing the winners of the PSC Awards, an event organized by the Polish Society of Cinematographers. This annual gathering serves as an excellent opportunity to honor filmmakers for their invaluable contributions to Polish cinematography. This year, the awards were presented in three categories, alongside a Special Award and a Lifetime Achievement Award.
The gala was hosted by Anna Rzepka and Zuzanna Kernbach, who are both cinematographers and members of PSC. In his opening speech, Piotr Śliskowski, CEO of the Polish Society of Cinematographers, emphasized the importance of unity and the potential that a united film community brings. As Gala Partners and PSC, we fully agree with this and therefore gladly support the association and events that are so significant for the film industry.
In the category of Best Cinematography for a Feature Film, Łukasz Żal triumphed for his outstanding work in the film „Strefa Interesów”, directed by Jonathan Glazer. This marks the third PSC award for this talented cinematographer (following „Zimna Wojna” (2019) and “Ida” (2014) in collaboration with Ryszard Lenczewski). Other films nominated in this category included „Biała Odwaga” (cinematographer: Marcin Koszałka), “IMAGO” (Tomasz Naumiuk), „Kobieta Z…” (Michał Englert), and “Kos” (Piotr Sobociński Jr).
This year, for the first time in the history of the PSC Awards, an ex aequo distinction was given in the category of Best Cinematography for a Documentary Film. The winners were Zuzanna Zachara-Hassairi for the film “Las” and Aliaksandr Tsymbaliuk for the cinematography of “Koka” (Studio Munka).
In the category for Best Cinematography for a Series Episode, the award was received by Maciej Sobieraj, who stood out for his work on the sixth episode of “Rojst Milenium” (directed by Jan Holoubek).
The PSC Special Award is granted to creators who have made significant contributions to the development of cinematic art. This year, Wojciech Żogała, a respected production designer known for his unforgettable visions in films such as „EDI”, „Bogowie” and „Człowiek z magicznym pudełkiem” was honored.
This year’s PSC Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to Arkadiusz Tomiak, recognized as one of the most outstanding cinematographers. His creative output includes films such as “„Daleko od okna”, „Statyści”, „Masz na imię Justine”, „Dziewczyna z szafy”, „Karbala”, „Obława” and the upcoming „Pani od Polskiego”. The laudation emphasized his passion and influence on Polish cinema: “Thank you for every frame, for every story written by you in light.” The award was received by Arkadiusz’s wife, Agnieszka Tomiak, accompanied by their daughter. Arkadiusz thus joined the ranks of distinguished laureates, including legends such as Jerzy Wójcik and Sławomir Idziak.
On Saturday evening, we also had the pleasure of viewing the exhibition “One Shot” by Piotr Kucia. The project features cinematographers associated with PSC — “Image artists, usually hidden behind the camera, this time stand before the lens, handing over control of light and composition to the photographer.”
The XIII Gala of the PSC Awards for the Best Polish Cinematographers was not only a summary of past achievements but also an encouragement to continue working on the development of Polish cinematography.
